Expiration time increased !

On the day 3 of May of 2010, IRCHighWay has decided that, based on the opinion of the whole staff, the expiration period for nicknames who haven't been used for a certain time and channels who hadn't had staff member on it for a certain time, has been increased from 30 to 45 days in order to prevent some issues we've come across with.

We thank you beforehand for your comprehension,
The IRCHighWay Staff.

A Day to Remember

To some, it's called Veterans Day, to others, Armistice Day, Poppy Day, and so forth. No matter what you call it, the 11th hour of the 11th month of the 11th day of each year is set aside for us to take pause, and remember those whom have fought in a war, no matter the reason, and survived to return home to those they love, and were perhaps fighting for.
Again, whether you know it as Veterans Day, ANZAC day, Armistice Day is irrelevant; so long as you remember the reason why we celebrate it: To show respect to our veterans.

I hope you all have a nice day.

Correct server address for connecting to IRCHighWay

Please make sure to enter irc.irchighway.net when connecting with your IRC client, not irchighway.net.

While this worked until recently, irchighway.net is only meant to be used to access our website, and not to connect to our IRC servers.

Mibbit allowed again

We've talked with Mibbit staff, and verified that they store information securely, so Mibbit can now connect again. Mibbit's privacy policy is located here, if you wish to review it yourself: http://www.mibbit.com/privacy.html

The previously mentioned concerns about data collection seem to be untrue; after further investigation, we couldn't find any basis for previous claims of them logging personal info.

Mibbit banned due to suspected privacy issues

[New Information - Updated post!]

Mibbit is now banned due to suspected privacy issues with logging information passing through the service, including passwords.

If you need a webclient, we ask that you use our client, which logs no personal information; the only logged info is the time of the request, the ip of the user, a session id, and the id of the message in the request.

We are retracting some of the previous statements until more proof is found.

Mibbit support

We've just setup Mibbit support for the network, Mibbit users will appear with their real hostnames. Those using Mibbit widgets for their channel need to change them to connect to webchat.irchighway.net in order to take advantage of this new functionality. Anyone having problems with this new system should post in our forum and let us know.

We also have a beta version of an official webchat running at http://webchat.irchighway.net/. It's currently being tested, but it's open to the public for use. (just be warned, it may be a bit buggy...)

IRCHighWay once again under DDoS attacks from unidentified brazilian people.

Dear users,

We would like to inform you that the current netsplits as well as those which have been occuring in the past three days are due to ongoing DDoS attacks against our network.

It is by now public knowledge that those attacks are, sadly, once again perpetrated by brazilian people which, in all due respect to our brazilian user base, should probably refered to as brazilian script kiddies.

We are doing our best to limit the effects of those attacks. However, as you are probably very much aware, it is not a phenomenon easy to fight off. Any help, assistance or piece of information that you could provide us with, is welcome.

Thank you for your patience and continuous support over the years.

The IRCHighWay Staff.
