Two new servers!

Hello everyone,

Recently, two new servers have passed their trial and been accepted as full links. Please join us in congratulating their admins. :)

In one side of the globe, returning server admin heimdall has linked France-based mushroom.fr.eu.irchighway.net. I can't welcome him back to our ranks since he didn't cease to be staff when his old server left us, but I can say he has a shiny server to watch his back once again! :P

And speaking of shiny servers, on the other side of globe, our brand-new server admin, RedTrio, provides Australia-based matrix.au.oc.irchighway.net, which will hopefully help improve our services in that area of the little mud ball most of us live on (commonly known as the Earth) in the years to come. :D

And now, excuse me, for I'm going to put on my party hat and join the celebration. :D

Cassol, for the IRCHighWay staff.

Canada-based server added

IRCHighWay's first Canadian server has passed its trial, and has been accepted for full link.

The server is supplied by TranceCrypt Radio, which brings you the best classic trance sets from the years 1999-2007.
Check out their homepage for information about their DJs, programming etc, or join the #TranceCrypt channel.

This weekend, they have lined up exclusive mixes by dozens of DJs for Memoires - a 50-hour music event in tribute to the soldiers who have lost their lives in Afghanistan, and the 21 people who died at the Love Parade 2010.

Ircd change

Early last year SOC decided that IRCHighway was going to move to a new ircd and that this new ircd should be inspircd. In preparation for this move we have now opened the channel #irchdev where our users can discuss the new ircd and later get the information to join our public testnet.

Expiration time increased !

On the day 3 of May of 2010, IRCHighWay has decided that, based on the opinion of the whole staff, the expiration period for nicknames who haven't been used for a certain time and channels who hadn't had staff member on it for a certain time, has been increased from 30 to 45 days in order to prevent some issues we've come across with.

We thank you beforehand for your comprehension,
The IRCHighWay Staff.

A Day to Remember

To some, it's called Veterans Day, to others, Armistice Day, Poppy Day, and so forth. No matter what you call it, the 11th hour of the 11th month of the 11th day of each year is set aside for us to take pause, and remember those whom have fought in a war, no matter the reason, and survived to return home to those they love, and were perhaps fighting for.
Again, whether you know it as Veterans Day, ANZAC day, Armistice Day is irrelevant; so long as you remember the reason why we celebrate it: To show respect to our veterans.

I hope you all have a nice day.

Correct server address for connecting to IRCHighWay

Please make sure to enter irc.irchighway.net when connecting with your IRC client, not irchighway.net.

While this worked until recently, irchighway.net is only meant to be used to access our website, and not to connect to our IRC servers.

Mibbit allowed again

We've talked with Mibbit staff, and verified that they store information securely, so Mibbit can now connect again. Mibbit's privacy policy is located here, if you wish to review it yourself: http://www.mibbit.com/privacy.html

The previously mentioned concerns about data collection seem to be untrue; after further investigation, we couldn't find any basis for previous claims of them logging personal info.

Class on July 11, 2009

We want to encourage everybody to continue to participate in activities IRCHighway has for you! We appreciate you all very much!

Now, we will be holding a class on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 3pm CDT (UTC-6) also known as 10pm CEST (UTC+2). We want everyone possible to attend the class in #Class.

The way class works is a specific topic is taught by the Class bot, and users gather up questions about the topic. When the bot has finished speaking, a 'Questions and Answers' segment will be opened where users can ask questions and the staff of #Class will answer them.
The specified topic for this class session will be "How to use #abuse" & "Getting the user ready to go (on IRC)".

You can post whatever questions you may have during the class, and there is not a limit to how many questions you may submit, though there is an anti-spam feature of one question per every 30 seconds. We will not allow questions that has foul language and/or are discriminating.

To ask a question during or after the class, just use this command: /msg Class question [your questions here]?

Please come out on July 11 and attend!
